Huge Database of UK Artifacts Now Online

As part of the UK's new campaign to encourage the reporting of portable antiquities found on British soil, a massive database storing information about recorded finds has been made publicly accessible on the web.

According to government officials, the database has more than trebled in size and is now receiving more than 30,000 page requests per month.

The search capabilities of the site allow one to search a keyword, such as "Mars," and a period, such as "Roman,"to be instantly presented with two hits....a bronze statue and a Roman coin found in Kent County.

While we applaud the efforts undertaken to ensure the site is suitable for public accessibility, it is regrettable that the site does not contain images of objects at this time.
