Roman "Tower" Found in London

According to the London Times, archaeologists working in central London say they have uncovered a "massive high-status domestic building" consisting of a house in excess of 130-feet wide that probably had four or five floors plus a tower that could have risen more than 80 feet from the ground.

According to coins and date artifacts uncovered in the excavation, the structure is thought to have been built around 320 AD. The site, on Plantation Place in Rood Lane, is believed to be related to the discovery last year of the grave of a noble Roman woman of Southern European decent (see Face of Ancient Londoner Revealed).

The structure was uncovered on land targeted to be developed into a high-rise office building in September.
