Roman "Titanic" Found Near Sicily

According to Italian press reports, a diver searching for octopus off the coast of Sicily has discovered the remains of what could be a sunken Roman luxury cruise ship.

The diver uncovered an oil lamp, bronze statue of Mercury, and other artifacts which he later turned over to a local museum. Underwater archaeologists dispatched to the area have already found several important objects including decorative bronze lamp stands an a cache of more than 5,000 coins.

Archaeologists have speculated that the ill-fated ship may have been a luxury liner for the noble classes based on similarities between artifacts recovered at the sight and those found in wealthy villas at Herculaneum and Pompeii.
