Greek Xenon-Ware Single-Handled Juglet

Circa 4th Century BC

  

Description:  Pleasing single-handled juglet on a small ring foot, glazed black and decorated with soft orange-pink color.  A ray and dot pattern encircles below the rim.  Two thick horizontal bands frame and encircling row of chevrons beginning and ending just below the handle.

Height:  2.75 in. (7.0 cm)

Condition:  A v-shaped chip to the rim and a small chip to the foot. Glaze partially rubbed around the rim. Some very light encrustation.

Provenance:  James Sweeney Collection (2000-2008), ex-Fragments of Time, ex-William D. Heimbach Collection (New England).
