Solid Cast Bronze Harpokrates Statue

Circa 1069-656 BC

Description: Large, solid cast bronze fragmentary statuette of the child god Harpocrates. The deity is in striding pose with the left foot ahead of the right, with left arm at his side. The now missing right arm would have been bent with forefinger raised to his lips (head now missing). As is typical, the figure is rendered in the nude with long, slightly pudgy torso and rounded features. Dark smooth emerald green patina. Third Intermediate Period.

Height: 3.6 in. (10.7 cm)

Condition: Condition: Intact as shown. Custom black perspex stand.

Provenance: Formerly in a private Ohio collection.

Background: Harpocrates, or “Horus the Child”, personifies the rising sun each day, the first strength of the winter sun, as well as early vegetation. He is considered a savior figure.
