Roman Egyptian Harpocrates Group
Circa 2nd Century BC-1st Century AD
Description: Hollow-made terracotta of Harpocrates seated next to his brother. The deity wears a short-sleeved chiton, sidelock and double crown between two lotus buds. He sits with his arm around his brother's shoulder, who sits holding a large jar with his legs across those of Harpocrates. He is naked except for bracelets around his wrists and ankles, a necklace with a solar disk and a large solar disk atop his head between two lotus buds. The reverse is detailed with garment folds and the child god's hair braided into a bun at the nape of his neck.
Height: 4.5 in. (11.1 cm)
Condition: Intact with a minor chip to the solar disk and traces of wax on the bottom back edge of the figure. Traces of limewash. Features slightly dulled from the mold used in antiquity.
Provenance: The terracotta was formerly a British property acquired in the 1970s-80s.
