Alfred the Great Penny - Rare Type

We recently received a request from a colleague who is looking for help in identifying a rare type of Alfred the Great penny.

The British Museum, which has examined the coin, described it as a "silver penny in the name of Alfred the Great, with blundered legend. Struck with unofficial dies and quite possibly a contemporary viking imitation." Other British Anglo-Saxon coin experts are in the process of studying the coin and its moneyer (KEIFRED).

Still, the coin remains enigmatic and anyone who might have more information might consider posting a message in the new Fragments of Time Ancient Art Discussion Forum.
