UK Homeowners Discover Inscribed Roman Stones in Wall

A British couple in the town of Greenhead, near Hadrian's Wall, have rediscovered an Inscribed Roman stone in the wall of their house.

The stone, inscribed IVL IANAL is short for Julius Ianalis, thought to have been a Roman centurion responsible for the stretch of Hadrian's Wall from which it originally came.  The stone was uncovered as preparations were underway for some refurbishment to a bunk house owned by the couple.

A second inscribed Roman stone carrying the inscription "civitas Dumnoni" is well known to the couple as it is mortared into the wall near the kitchen door.
