Neolithic Stone Arrowhead from the Holy Land

Circa 10,000-5000 BC

Description:  A Neolithic Era arrowhead of polished beige-colored stone.  This nearly flat arrowhead has a blunt flat base and tapered point.  The upper surface has a low central ridge beveled on the sides to create distinct blade-like edges.  The underside has been left flat and smooth.  Typical example of "flake-tools" created by striking a larger and smaller rock together in such a way as to create flakes of stone in a desired shape.

Length:  1.25 in. (3 cm)

Condition: Intact.

Provenance:  Formerly in the Prof. Levenstein Collection, Haifa, Israel, acquired prior to 1955.  The arrowhead was found in Israel.

Exhibited:  Previously on loan to the Herzelia Museum in Tel-Aviv.  Museum number:  524/173.
