Redware Fragment of Muscular Hercules Holding Lionskin and Club

Circa 3rd-4th Century AD

Description:  Redware fragment from a thin-walled Roman bowl depicting in molded relief a standing Hercules holding in his left hand a well detailed lionskin and a club.  From Roman North Africa.

Length:  3.6 in. (9.2 cm)

Condition:  Intact as shown.

Provenance:  Formerly in a German private collection acquired prior to 1990.
