Hellenistic Terracotta Head of a Goddess Wearing Elaborate Headdress

Circa 3rd-1st Century BC

  

Description: Buff-colored terracotta of a female goddess with pursed lips and looking straight ahead.  She wears an elaborate high polos on her head decorated with five rosettes.  On a custom wood base for display.

Height:  3.0 in. (7 cm)

Condition:  Intact as shown.

Provenance:  Acquired in the 1930s by a NY author and collector who traveled extensively to Egypt and Palestine and by descent to a private New England gentleman.
