Crisply Molded Redware Lamp with Stylized Cross and Palm Branches

Circa 5th Century AD    

Description:   Redware lamp with lovely and crisp floral pattern on the sunken medallion. The flower petal design consists of four conjoined arched patterns in the form of a cross interspersed with four palm branches, all surrounding a central filling hole. The shoulder is decorated with alternating concentric circles and florettes within a raised border. Spike handle and raised ring base surrounding two impressed circles.

Height:  5.3 in. (13.5 cm)

Condition:  Intact with small area of roughness and restoration at nozzle.

Provenance:  Formerly in an East Coast private collection.
