Superb Apulian Plate with Lady of Fashion

Circa Late 4th Century BC 

Description:  Superb Greek South Italian red-figure painted plate from Apulia featuring a large profile head of a Lady of Fashion wearing an elaborately decorated headdress with white and yellow painted details.  She wearing large earrings and a double strand necklace. A white painted wreath decorates the outer border.  

Diameter:  7.75 in (19.5 cm)

Condition:  Intact and a very vividly painted and well-preserved example.  Very minor pock mark and some deposits on the reverse.  

Provenance:  Formerly in a New York collection, also ex-Christies Amsterdam, Feb 21, 1985, lot #274.
