Greek Buff-colored Single Handled Juglet Circa 6th-5th Century BC
Description: Beautifully shaped, thinly potted juglet of buff-color, finely grained clay with concentric red-brown banded motif. The pyriform body narrows from the shoulder into a wide flaring lip with flat strap handle from lip to shoulder. The vessel stands on a ring foot. Around the broadest part of the body is a wide central band flanked by two thin bands, all in shades of brown varying from brick-red to nearly black at the handle. Inner lip is similarly painted with a broad band and two thinner bands inward. Very appealing shape and color. Height: 4.2 in. (9.5 cm) Condition: Intact except minor chips and negligible fissure on lip. Slight encrustation. Provenance: Formerly in the Professor and Mrs. Sid Port Collection, Los Angeles, CA. Price: SOLD
